I didn’t think the original top gear America was terrible, but the commercials really broke up the flow and they had to try and cram more into less time.

they have all been “fine”. but each time it’s been a failed attempt to catch the lightning in a bottle that was “new” UK Top Gear with Jezza and the boys. (as “old” UK top gear was just Motor Trend car magazine tv basically)

They definitely found their stride towards the end, once they ditched ALL the studio stuff and did ALL cheap car challenges, with maybe a tiny new car review at the end.

Really, not too dissimilar to what the Grand Tour is doing now interestingly.

I look forward to them using the same theme for every episode like the last US Topgear did. Drive three crappy cars for "humor" and then have the one guy who can drive do so in a fast car. Over and over and over. I liked the last attempt but it got old really fast.

I dunno... It could be good.

Get the guys in the same area, let them learn to have fun with each other, then throw them in wacky situations.

Let it grow naturally, and it will be a good show. I think the last Top Gear USA tried to jump them into the middle of the UK TG’s popularity, and it didn’t exactly work.

I subscribed....

I know I don’t make full use of it, but it’s not that expensive and it really hits the spot when I’m craving car shows.

Plus, the production values are better than any youtube car show and there aren’t any annoying commercials.

Seriously. This is the exact same formula the main TG went with, along with the other TG America spin-offs : three white dudes, one of whom’s a good driver. Jethro’s really the only one who interests me of the three (not unlike Harris on the main show), and if the TG UK is any indication, I’m just going to lose interest.

Not that I would expect anything that isn’t formulaic and bleh from MT/Discovery. They’ve been blanding down car programming for YEARS.

I’ll back you up on this. Season 1 sucked, but once they ditched the studio and did nothing but challenges, it really hit its stride. The guys were even getting their own cute little chemistry, too!

But like the new new new Top Gear UK , this will probably suck. :(

I thought th e UK top gear with Matt, Rory, and Chris was pretty good. Admittedly , I didn’t really like Rory at first; he just seemed over excited and loud. He grew on me and I enjoyed his stuff in the end. He was like the Hammond of the group, and Hammond is my least favorite TG/TGT presenter.

I liked them, too! Matt seemed like a natural for a show like this. Unfortunately, Matt and Rory are no longer Presenters (or at least, Rory is no longer a main Presenter), having been replaced with two random dudes I’ve never heard of.

True, true—and it was pretty fun when TG basically went to all films. Still, at this point, it all just feels very formulaic, especially with three white dudes helming the show. Can’t we get anyone else’s perspective on a car show for once? Rory was robbed, IMHO—and the best of the new-TG bunch.
